EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Council adopts its meeting timetable on an annual basis. This enables the community to be
aware of when Council meetings are scheduled and for staff to develop timetables for preparing
agendas for those meetings. As the Local Government Elections will take place in March 2024, this
report puts forward for adoption the proposed timetable for the remainder of this term of Council,
being January - March 2024.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer (Acting) to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 10 October 2023 and approve the Council Meeting schedule for January-
March 2024 as set out in Attachment 1 to the Report.
REPORT
At the Post Election Meeting on 15 April 2020, Council adopted its Council Meeting structure
incorporating three Standing Committees and an Ordinary meeting. The meeting structure has
remained unchanged since that time with meetings being held on a monthly cycle.
The next Local Government election is being held on Saturday, 16 March 2024, and accordingly a
schedule has been developed for the January–March 2024 period (refer Attachment 1). Following
the declaration of the poll, the incoming Council will determine its meeting structure going forward
and meeting schedule for the remainder of 2024.
As per previous years, the first meeting round of the year (January 2024) will consist of only a
General Committee Meeting (15 January) and an Ordinary Meeting (18 January). There will be no
Planning & Environment Committee or Services & Organisation Committee meeting held in January
due to the timing of report deadlines conflicting with the Christmas/ New Year period and the
availability of staff and Councillors over this time.
As the Elections are being held on 16 March, the March round will be brought forward 1 week to
enable the monthly meeting to be held prior to the end of term.
