INVITATION FOR COMMENTS ON PROPOSED CHANGE OF LEASE 90

      I refer to Council’s noticeboard at 90 Noosa Pde, Noosa Heads (Lot32
N21854, Noosa Heads), inviting comments regarding the approval being sought for
the Material Challge of Use froIII Park and Outdoor Din zg Areas to Entertaining & Dinillg
Business Type 1   Food & Beverages (Outdoor Dining).

       I sincerely believe that any changes to the existing lease following the
application will have a significant and adverse impact on several restaurant
businesses in the complex, most notably the Rock Salt restaurant which, my wife and
I, being residents of Noosa for the past fifteen years, regard as one of the best and
most consistently     high quality tourist-attracting restaurants on the Sunshine Coast
and most certainly, Noosa.

        In addition to the fine food offered by the very competent and courteous staff,
the restaurant itself is situated in an idyllic position between Noosa Parade and the
Noosa River with its popular outdoor eating and the adjacent grassed area running
alongside being a significant attraction. The outdoor dining area, which can be
enclosed by clear drop blinds during inclement weather, provides for a wonderful
breezeway on warm or very hot days, which adds greatly to the Rock Salt dining
experience and a place where small children can play safely while being kept under
close observation by their parents or guardians and not being otherwise confined to
the close spaces between tables and diners inside the restaurant proper. In addition,
the restaurant rarely operates beyond lOpm each trading day, is not licensed to sell
alcohol beverages, and is patronised mainly by a regular clientele consisting of
retirees, their interstate families and friends, or holidaying business people. The
noise levels for such a business is certainly not unreasonable and is confined to very
soft background music.

        Because of these characteristics, together with the commitment of the
principals and their staff in promoting Noosa as the holiday destination and a must
on every visitor’s itinerary, Rock Salt is an idyllic family restaurant and one that I

certainly promote and recommend at every opportunity.
       If this application for change to the status quo is successful and the
restaurants’ dining area is restricted to within the confines of original restaurant area
and its outdoor dining no longer accessible to intending or regular clients, then, I
believe that would seriously impact on the existing business to the point where it’s
viability as one of Noosa’s most popular and award-winning eating houses would
have to be questioned and that would be a very sad day for Noosa, particularly
when Noosa has such a need for first class, reputable and popular family and tourist
attractions such as the Rock Salt Restaurant.

       Aware as I am of the rights of all individuals concerned and the need for

certainty and confidence in both existing and intended business opportunities and
enterprises, I sincerely hope that with goodwill and maturity of thought, a
compromise to the mutual satisfaction of all the parties concerned will be reached
and agreed as soon as possible.
