The decision of Council in relation to that report on 16 May 2019 can be found below
under the heading of “Previous Council consideration”.
At the outset, it is important to note that the flight path issue is a separate issue to the
expansion of the airport. That airport expansion has been finalised and the new runway has
now been commissioned and is operational.
Some of the key issues that have been raised by our community in relation to the flight path
issue include:
extremely poor or no consultation with the communities directly affected by the
proposed flight paths;
lack of information about the potential impacts of proposed flight paths on Noosa
residents including inconsistent advice about noise issues;
confusion regarding the previous EIS’s and what was proposed in terms of flight paths;
confusion regarding proposed hours of operation of the airport with different hours
being identified in EIS’s and flight path consultation processes;
confusion regarding the intensity of flight numbers over different parts of the Shire (e.g.
the coastal flight path); and
lack of an independent EIS for the impact on Lake Weyba, the Noosa National Park
and the coastal dunes within the Castaways Beach and Marcus Beach areas.
Council also previously committed to supporting the statement of intent by Flight Path Forum
Inc. A copy of that statement of intent is below:
