Positive and negative issues associated with tourism in Noosa
Business respondents were asked to provide general comments regarding their views on
positive and negative impacts of tourism on Noosa and their business. The overall results
are shown in the figures below. The top 6 responses from Businesses from different location
types are shown in the tables following the graphs.
All businesses agree that the highest benefit of tourism is that more money is spent in the
economy, and most agreed that tourism assists promotion of the area nationally and
internationally.
Overwhelmingly, the main negatives associated with tourism were traffic congestion and
parking. Thirty six (36) percent of the 103 businesses providing comments indicated that
congestion was an issue for their business, and 52 percent indicated it was an issue for
Noosa generally. Parking was nominated by 20 percent of businesses as an issue for their
business and 41 percent of businesses felt this was an issue for Noosa generally. It is noted
that Council is well aware of these as issues, and has developed a transport strategy, a
transport reference group, and is working on a range of actions and initiatives to improve
transport choice and accessibility throughout the Shire and key popular areas.
Environmental impact and overcrowding of areas were also considered to be main impacts
for Noosa as a whole. A number of businesses indicated that there were no negative
impacts to their business (31 percent) and 16 percent indicated that there were no negative
impacts on Noosa generally.
