a Aerial Photography Analysis
Areview of historical aerial photography has been undertaken to assess the historical beach
movements at Sunshine Beach. Examination of aerial photography provides useful information on
erosion events and beach recovery. This information can be used to provide additional context to
the assessment of coastal processes above.
Figure 3-1 shows the aerial photography covering the site from 1979, 1987, 1999 and 2018. Figure
3-2 shows the seaward edged of vegetation from 1979, 1987 and 1999 over the current aerial
photography. This information shows there was a landward shift in the edge of vegetation in 1979
associated with frequent storms during the 1970’s. However, there was a subsequent recovery in
1987 and 1999 aerial photographs which correlate well with the current vegetation line. This
supports BMT WBM (2013) statement that erosion rates along this section of coast are current very
low.
