SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 AUGUST 2021

Finance
Despite the disruption of Covid-19, the Community Services Department has completed the 2020/21
financial year in a strong financial position, being $2.33M favourable to budget on preliminary end of
year data and noting that some surplus was also taken up at BR3. Higher than forecast revenue
came through strongly in waste disposal and sale of recyclables, and community facilities venues
recovered much faster than predicted.
Branch managers took a cautionary approach to expenditure in case of further Covid financial impact
delivering a $1.4M saving across employee costs and materials and services.
Overall the Community Services department has performed to a very high standard throughout the
financial year and supported Council overall in our efforts to maintain a solid financial position.
Risks & Opportunities
The major risks facing the department include:
maintaining adequate health, hygiene and mitigation measures in response to the coronavirus
Covid-19 pandemic;
managing business-as-usual tasks within Covid-19 and bushfire recovery workloads;
managing waste and associated emissions;
responding to funding changes in Noosa Community Support; and
managing workload pressures.
The main opportunities the department is investigating include:
investigating new models of service and operation as a result of Covid-19;
implementing new service models for the Library’s outreach services;
supporting organisations access recovery funding;
diversifying revenue streams; and
recruiting new managers within key roles.
