INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 25 FEBRUARY 2014
Library staff are working closely with Civica, the provider of the library service’s software
management system, Spydus, to ensure a smooth data extraction and migration to a new Noosa
system. In order to meet Sunshine Coast Council deadlines there is a very tight project
implementation plan.
The keys elements in the separation project plan include:
17 February ongoing Customer support strategy
4 – 12 March Noosa Spydus system test phase
14 March Last day of access to Sunshine Coast Council Spydus system
17 – 24 March Offline
25 March Go-live on new Noosa Spydus system
26 March onwards Commence migrating customers to new Noosa membership cards
30 June Complete residual collection transfer to Sunshine Coast Council;
Cease receiving collection items under SCC Library Materials
contract
1 July Commence collections procurement under LocalBuy contracts
The following sections provide further detail of the key aspects of the final separation of library
services.
1. Impact on Customers
Customers are continuing to express concern over library services separating from the larger
Sunshine Coast Libraries service. While much of the separation has already occurred with
minimal impact on Noosa customers, an impact will be felt following the final separation of
collections and the Spydus systems, in particular through:
loss of access to the current collection of 550,000 items;
increased waiting times for reservations;
the need to have two membership cards and accounts to use Noosa and Sunshine Coast
library services;
the inability to pick up and return items to any library within the Noosa and Sunshine Coast
library services; and
loss of reservations and historical loan data as not all data is being copied to the Noosa
Spydus system.
However, the overall Noosa Library Service experience will remain highly positive offering:
access to quality branch libraries and facilities at Noosaville and Cooroy;
a contemporary Mobile Library with services reinstated to pre-amalgamation levels;
skilled, friendly staff with connections to the Noosa shire community;
physical and digital collections relevant to current demands;
current public technology and free wi-fi; and
a diverse range of learning, literacy and community services programs.
Programming will be local, personable and community centric:
relevant to our unique Noosa communities;
meeting the needs and interests of local people;
promoting local people and events, and
reflecting the corporate priorities of Noosa Council.
