ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Local governments are responsible for the good rule and their local government areas.[7] This responsibility includes the performance of various functions and the delivery of a range of services to the community. Within this context, an understanding and acceptance of the different roles of the Mayor, Councillors and employees, with cooperation between all parties, underpins good governance for our local government. It is important to note that elected members and Council employees are tasked with delivering the functions of the local government, and in doing so must adhere to the principles of good governance – equity, transparency, integrity and accountability – to secure the confidence of the communities they serve.[8] [7] Local Government Act 2009 (QLD) s 9.
