3. Details of Submission
I , make the following submission:
I I oppose the proposal for reasons which include but are not limited to the following:
A diversified range of retail precincts in close proximity to where people live and stay is more benefit to Noosa than a
I large, outmoded retail centre. The proposed expansion would impact negatively on the viability of the existing centres.
It is a generally acknowledged economic fact that times are going to get tougher in Australia and discretionary retail
spending will be hard hit by any economic slowdown, so to be expanding the regional retail capacity of Noosa, which is
I already oversupplied, is wrong and foolhardy and if approved, would lack foresight by the approving authority.
I Traditional retail is in rapid decline throughout Australia due to online shopping so why create more retail space?
A major problem with this centre is that it relies heavily for visitation on the motor car which is an acknowledged negative
I for the environment. Perpetuating this need only increases the burden and reliance on other infrastructure such as roads.
It is very clear that Noosa is oversupplied with retail space throughout the existing precincts. Why accentuate this problem
[ with the introduction of another 22,BOOsq m of additional retail space?
Many design professionals are now questioning the relevance of the existing! proposed shopping centre model with
I predictions over time that they will become retail slums full of discount variety stores! Is this the u re f r a?
I Noosa deserves beller than more stereotyped unimaginative retail centres. 01).. ..t
