3.1.1 Regulated Vegetation Management map
The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) presents the Regulated
Vegetation Management Mapping (RVMM) as gazetted under the Vegetation Management Act
(1999) (VMA). Analysis of RVMM shows that the survey area contains mapped Regulated
Vegetation in the areas surrounding the Vipassana Centre.
3.1.2 Regional Ecosystem mapping
DNRME presents a Vegetation Management Supporting map which shows the location of
Regional Ecosystems (RE) as gazetted under the VMA (1999). Analysis of this map shows that
the vegetation within and adjacent to the proposed works, including the 100 metre buffer zone
(which contains the riparian zone on the western edge of the Vipassana Centre allotment)
contains ‘Of Concern” RE 12.3.2 and 12.3.11, ‘Least Concern’ RE 12.9-10.17 and ‘Endangered’
RE 12.3.1.
These REs are described in Table 1 and their location is represented in Figure 4.
TABLE 1: Regional Ecosystems mapped over survey area
RE VMA status Biodiversity Description
status
12.3.2 Of concern Of concern Eucalyptus grandis tall open forest on alluvial plains
12.9-10.17 Least No concern at Eucalyptus acmenoides, E. major, E. siderophloia +/-
concern present Corymbia citriodora subsp. variegata woodland on
sedimentary rocks
12.3.1a Endangered Endangered Gallery rainforest (notophyll vine forest) on alluvial plains
12.3.11 Of Concern Of Concern Eucalyptus tereticornis +/- E. siderophloia and Corymbia
intermedia open forest to woodland
3.1.3 Essential Habitat designation
Essential Habitat is a vegetation ecotype that is considered by DES to form potential habitat for a
species that is listed as Endangered, Vulnerable, Rare or Near Threatened under Schedules 2-5
of the Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulation (2006). Essential Habitat mapping is provided in
conjunction with Regulated Vegetation Management mapping (DNRME 2016) as gazetted under
the VMA (1999).
The remnant vegetation on the Vipassana Centre allotment (Lot 6 on RP848414) is designated
as Essential Habitat for Vulnerable-listed Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis) and Koala
(Phascolarctos cinereus).
