1.5 Impacts on flora and fauna habitat
Potential direct and indirect impacts to existing flora and fauna habitat from the proposed works
include:
• Loss of 8 - 10 significant native trees which have a diameter at breast height (dbh) of
500 – 800mm, which are providing shade, habitat and arboreal connectivity in the
bushland adjacent to the built environment.
• Loss of 24 - 28 native trees which have a dbh of 200 – 500mm, that provide
supplementary shade, habitat and arboreal connectivity in the adjacent bushland.
• Loss of some midstorey and understorey native trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges and
groundcovers that are providing shade and habitat in the bushland surrounding the
Vipassana Centre.
• Loss or alteration of approximately 500 m2 of mapped remnant open forest (‘Least
Concern’ RE 12.9-10.17 and ‘Least Concern’ RE 12.3.11). It is noted that this area is
actually formed by lawn and track areas and is not considered to form remnant
vegetation.
• Loss or alteration of approximately 500 m2 of mapped Essential habitat for ‘Vulnerable’
fauna species: Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), and Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis).
