Noosa Civic Expansion
28 Eenie Creek Road, Noosaville and parts of the road reserves of Hofmann Drive and Walter Hay Drive
Information Required:
62 Supply Figure 2 with improved legend to allow clear definition of values shown.”
RESPONSE
An amended figure has been prepared and is provided as part of Appendix F – Ecological
Response.
7.7 Fauna and Insect Management
“The open space areas will continue to support mosquitos and fauna. Concerns are raised with
their impact on the open air link between the existing and expanded shopping centre.
Information Required:
63 Provide comment on the likely management issues and responses to fauna and
mosquito control for the open air pedestrian and dining link.”
RESPONSE
The level of risk to health or amenity outcomes of visitors to the retail centre is similar to the risk
experienced at other residential and commercial developments within coastal sections of the
Noosa Shire. A range of management measures are proposed to be implemented to manage
mosquito exposure, as described in the Supplementary Ecological Assessment Report included
as part of Appendix F – Ecological Response to this report.
Nuisance birds will be managed through hard and landscape design as well as additional
management measures described in the Supplementary Ecological Assessment Report included
as part of Appendix F – Ecological Response to this report.
7.8 Fauna and Insect Management
“Covenant J on SP182845 is intended to preserve the native vegetation on the land.
Information Required:
64 Describe how the proposal will fulfil the purposes of Covenant J on SP182845 and:
(a) Where the proposal is unable to meet the intent and purpose of the covenant,
provide alternative solutions that will preserve existing vegetation on the lot.
(b) Describe how the pedestrian link will avoid significant vegetation, including
stag and roost trees.
(c) Describe how the vegetation within the covenant will be managed during the
operational stages to ensure the purpose of the covenant is met.”
RESPONSE
The pedestrian link and Hofmann Drive road batters requires 731m2 of vegetation to be
permanently removed from the site (525m2 for the pedestrian link and 206m2 for the road batters).
It is intended that the road batter will be revegetated following the completion of construction.
Vegetation outside of, but contiguous with, Covenant J is being integrated as part of the
landscape concept for the proposed development, totalling an area of approximately 1,660m2.
Approximately 630m2 of this area (i.e. more area than is being cleared) will not be affected by
roads or walking trails. In effect, this area is intended to represent the northern extension to the
covenant area.
Approximately 43 trees will be removed for the pedestrian link, none of which are stags, species
of conservation significance, or support notable habitat features (e.g. hollows or notable roosts).
Refer to Appendix F – Ecological Response to this report for particulars of the trees affected.
