Details of Submission I (We), make the following submission: I am a parent of two children attending Good Shepherd Lutheran College and strongly oppose the proposed development for a service station to be built next to the school. There is no doubting the fact that Benzene emmissions are harmful, and even with the planting of trees along with current emission reduntion technology, there will still be emmissions that will reach the nearest part of the school which is the outdoor swimming pool and grandstand. Unleaded fuel is a carcinogen, which is why service station attendants don’t fill up your fuel tank at the bowser anymore; this stopped once Unleaded fuel was introduced. The increase in traffic will become a serious issue with the entrance to the service station located in a school zone. East bound cars will have to do a U turn at the roundabout situated at the school’s entrancein order to get onto the other side of the road to acces the service station. This will undoubtedly cause extra traffic congestion on an already busy roundabout. The proposed site is also currently used for parking during drop off and pick up times, so there will be parking issues created by removing this. I can categorically say that we would not have enrolled our children in this school nine years ago if the service station was already where they are proposing to build it, so the thought of this being allowed disgusts me. Good Shepherd Lutheran College is an asset to the Noosa Community and Council will be devaluing this asset by allowing the construction of a service station adjacent to the school. This will make the school less appealing to families which will result in less enrollements and current students relocating to other private schools such as St Andrews which is in Sunshine Coast Council. Putting profits before the health and well being of our children is a trait that should not be tolerated in our community and I implore Council to deny this application.
