EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 6 October 2020 and approve the Council meeting dates for 2021 as set
out in Attachment 1 to the report.
REPORT
At the Ordinary Meeting on 30 April 2020, Council adopted its Council meeting structure
incorporating three Standing Committees and an Ordinary meeting.
In consultation with the Mayor, a draft Council Meeting Schedule for 2021 has been prepared for
Council’s consideration (refer to Attachment 1). No changes have been proposed to the existing
arrangements.
As per previous years, the first meeting round of the year (January) will only consist of a General
Committee Meeting (18 January) and an Ordinary Meeting (21 January). There won’t be a
Planning & Environment Committee or Services & Organisation Committee meeting held in
January. This is due to the timing of report deadlines conflicting with the Christmas/ New Year
period and the availability of staff over this time.
Community Council Meetings
Council has held two Ordinary meetings per year offsite in recent years. These community Council
meetings provide an opportunity for local communities to meet with the Mayor and Councillors and
discuss local issues. Most of these have been held in hinterland towns in recent years and have
mainly been well attended by local residents as an opportunity to meet with elected representatives
and discuss local issues. It is intended to continue this process, however given the current situation
with the coronavirus, we will revisit this issue when safe to do so. A separate report will be provided
to Council on potential community based Council meetings once the coronavirus pandemic threat
recedes.
