Figure 5. Fuel Accumulation Assessment – Surrounding Forest Community
Fuel hazard estimate Assessment according to Hines et al 2010
Date: 20th July 2021
Layer Rating Description / Comments Equivalent fuel
load
t/ha
Surface and near surface Moderate Moderate litter bed 10 - 20mm (high rate of 8-9
decomposition and breakdown) with moderate NS fuels
as Lomandra sp and low shrubs.
Elevated Very High Canopy recruiters, Acacia sp, Alphitonia sp and vines. 5
Brush against vegetation most of the time.
Bark High Ribbon barks (E.tereticornis) Otherwise lower bark 2
hazard L.confertus, Acacia sp, C.intermedia.
Overall rating Very High 15 - 16t/ha
Table 1. Fuel Assessment - Surrounding Forest Community
The vegetation community present is a combination of mapped Regional Ecosystem 12.15.3 and 12.5.6. The
default total available fuel load values attributed by State Government to Vegetation Hazard Class 9.1 is
24.2t/ha, 21t/ha of which is surface and near surface fuel, and these values have been applied to site specific
fire modelling as required under Method 2 of AS3959-2018, in Section 6.3 of this Assessment. Note that these
fuel loads are greater than those assessed, although prolonged dry could be expected to cause leaf fall and an
increase in surface fuel loads.
