These surveys were carried out over several years, when the Mary River Catchment area looked like being flooded by the Traveston Dam. Another survey will be undertaken during this coming wet season by Eva Ford, Catchment Officer (Threatened Species Project) Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee. Several endangered and vulnerable species have been noted in the attached report, including the endangered Giant Barred Frog and Cascade Treefrog, and the vulnerable Tusk Frog. The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) requires proponents to obtain Commonwealth approval, if an action (the intensive chicken farm) is likely to have a significant impact on matters of national environmental significance (i.e. endangered species). I realise that the responsibility for referring an action to the Commonwealth Environment Minister lies with the person proposing to take that action. Therefore, since there are several endangered frog species likely to be affected, I request that the Sunshine Coast Regional Council encourage Mr Milligan to refer his proposal to the Commonwealth Environment Minister (Compliance and Enforcement Branch, Environment Assessment and Compliance Division, Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities) for assessment. Sincerely, Julia Walkden 423 Old Ceylon Road Cooroy QLD 4563
