MCU14/0106 Submission PM Object - Greg Barber
Subject: Noosa Civic Expansion

I wish to submit my objection to the expansion of the Noosa Civic shopping centre, for the three following reasons.
1) Loss of amenity. The existing stage one is not the business innovation hub promised by the developer, but is a stock standard suburban shopping centre like all the rest in Australia's urban wasteland. Stage two would simply create more of the same, with expanded tarmac car parks and outsized buildings, with the associated traffic, noise and pollution. Many more daily car movements would be added to an already congested Eummundi-Noosa Road.
2) Economy Proponents of the expansion suggest that it would capture funds currently flowing out of the Shire, yet the Mum and Dad traders will suffer when funds flow to huge corporates like Westfarmers and Woolworths, whose profits also exit the Shire.
3) Environment The existing Civic development is in my view, already too large in scale and should not be expanded. Noosa cannot afford further loss of habitat, and a new larger shopping centre will place pressure on Council to open new greenfield housing sites to sustain the traders should the shopping centre fail to perform financially.
Yours Faithfully,
Greg Barber
