The background noise levels calculated using the lowest 10th percentile method are shown in Table 5.3.
Rainfall affected noise data has been excluded from this analysis.
Table 5.3 Background Noise Levels at Location A
Background Noise Level L90 dBA
Period
Overall Less Insects
Day (7am to 6pm) 45 38
Evening (6pm to 10pm) 42 38
Night (10pm to 7am) 39 34
From the above results and observations the following comments are made:
Extraneous noise from insects dominated attended measurements and logging data. It is expected
that insects are seasonal and tend to be present in warmer months. During cooler periods of the
year, insect noise is expected to be significantly reduced. Background noise levels in the quieter
periods of the year have been estimated by removing the high frequency (8kHz and 16kHz octave
bands) insect noise from the analysis of background noise levels.
Rainfall was recorded on the morning of Tuesday 20th between the hours of 12:45am and 9:00am
and appears to have affected the noise levels. The noise affected data has been removed from the
determination of background noise levels.
