SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 MAY 2021

     > Tait Duke cottage. Although not a major project, it was a highly significant one that resolved the
location and proposed use of this cottage which had been “stored” in the Wallace Park precinct for
many years during the SCRC years. Creating a partnership with community organisations has seen
the cottage brought back to life and provided community benefit.

     > Hinterland playground. This promises to be another signature piece of infrastructure that will have
the “wow factor” for the hinterland. Many years in the making, construction has now begun following
an extensive assessment, tender and planning processes. | look forward to taking my future
         grandkids to this park.

e =©Refurbishing existing facilitates has been consistent with my philosophy of “looking after what you have
before you build something new”. |n the past few years, we have:-

     > Undertaken a major revamp of the Noosaville Library that refurbished the asset for future
generations and added significant new capability including RFID and a Makerspace. This
refurbishment complimented the existing architecture, expanded the public areas and added
innovative solar panels to the roof line.

     >» Undertaken a major refurbishment of the Noosa Aquatic Centre that included a complete revamp of
the major pool, replacement of the deck, roof and also major plant and equipment to operate the
facility (including the heat pumps). The facility remains a centrepiece of the local swimming
         community after 25 years.

» Undertaken a major refurbishment of the Noosa North Shore campground to provide for both world
class beach side camping options for our community/visitors and also to provide Council with long-
term commercial revenue. Similarly, refurbishments of public amenities at our Munna Point
campground and Boreen Point campground have been undertaken.

» Focus on refurbishing our bridges given that there is a significant amount of Federal funding
available. This has included major bridges like the Munna Point Bridge, the Mary River Road Bridge
at Cooroy and the Orealla Bridge at Sunrise Beach. Indeed, we have been highly successful in
attracting funding from the State and Federal Government for a range of projects. | haven’t added
it up over the years but imagine we have attracted over S40M worth of State and Commonwealth
         funding to our region.

e Starting a new Council meant we had to establish a range of long-term strategies/plans to help guide
     decision-making. These included:-

» A Local Economic Plan which was focused on diversifying our economy away from tourism and is
currently being reviewed for its second iteration. Our economy has become more resilient as
evidenced by the “bounce back” after Covid.

     >» A Social Strategy supported by a range of sub-plans including a Sport and Recreation Plan, an Arts
and Cultural Heritage plan etc. This is supported by an active community grants program to support
         our local community groups.

     > An Environment Strategy supported by specific plans including a koala conservation plan. This is
supported by an environment grants program together with acquisitions via our environment levy of
land at Boreen Point, Cooroibah and Johns Landing.

     >» Anew Town Planning Scheme developed after 4 years of research and community engagement was
adopted in 2020. This was a challenging process with high levels of community interest.
