REPORT
1. Background
The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) is the major university in our region. As well as their
main campus at Sippy Downs, USC has also had a physical presence in Noosa for nearly 15 years.
On 17 February 2021, the Mayor, Councillors and CEO met with the Vice Chancellor and senior staff
at USC. We explored opportunities to work more closely together in the future and agreed that it
would be opportune to consider the establishment of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
between the two organisations. Since that time, the Chief Executive Officer and the Pro Vice
Chancellor (Engagement) have been in negotiations about how we can advance the working
relationship.
2. Proposed Memorandum of Understanding
A draft Memorandum of Understanding has been developed (see Attachment 1) and is presented to
Council for adoption. The key points in relation to the proposed MOU are as follows:
An MOU is an enabling document to help establish a working relationship which can lead to
specific projects that the parties can do together.
