the proposed service station/shop, will
undoubtedly disrupt the traffic flow and
cause a road safety issue. In this regard, it is
noted that the QTraffic Report acknowledges
that 75% of trade is expected to be existing
users of the road, but agrees that 25% of
traffic will be new traffic which is generated
by the shop and service station being there.
Cars travelling from Goodchap St regularly
cut across the two lanes of the round about
to make the left hand turn into Walter Hay
Drive.
Presently , a large number of cars travelling
from Goodchap Road and turning right at
the roundabout at the GSLC entrance, veer
across at speed into the left hand lane in
order for them be able to turn left into
Walter Hay Drive. Adding a busy access
egress point there will require left turning
traffic to swing out and around to turn left,
thus causing a road safety problem.
Although the width of the vehicular crossing
(not less than 8m) complies, it is the
projected increase in volume of traffic
passing down this stretch of road and
entering/exiting the service station and/or
the roundabout, which precludes a solution
to 085.
In addition, the safety of cyclists (including
GSLC students) using the cycle lane or the
adjacent pathway will be compromised, with
an increased number of encounters between
bicycles and vehicles.
Finally, the increased volume of traffic
heading west along the Eumundi Noosa
Road will make it difficult for vehicles exiting
the service station and wishing to cross into
the far lane in order to be in the correct lane
to completely circle the Walter Hay Drive
roundabout so that they can travel in an
easterly direction towards the Noosa river.
This currently is already very difficult to do
at pick up and drop off times, let alone with
increased traffic.
