EMP – CONSTRUCTION PHASE 4-23
Strategy: To ensure that all cleared vegetation is disposed of in a suitable manner.
Responsibility: Site Environmental Officer and Principal Contractor.
Management Actions:
Element C.2 and Appendix C presents the Vegetation Retention and Clearing Strategy which includes
issues of relevance to this element.
1. Disposal of vegetation to be in accordance with Council policy and any relevant permits.
2. Where vegetation is removed, the material (except weeds) will be chipped and mulched for use
in landscaping on-site or off-site or disposed of at a landfill which accepts green waste.
3. In accordance with Council conditions, vegetation disposal methods will not include the burning
off of vegetative matter.
4. Where practical, any suitable habitat trees (hollow logs) identified by the Wildlife Ecologist prior
to clearing, will be collected for redistribution in conservation areas of the site (refer Element
C.2).
5. To avoid contamination of potential mulch material for revegetation and landscaping, the
Contractor shall separate native and non-native/weed species into different stockpiles as far as is
practicable. Non-native vegetation shall not be mulched for re-use on site, to minimise the risk of
propagation and consequent contamination of landscaping/revegetation material. This material is
to be disposed of at an approved Council facility.
6. Element C.4 (Weed Management) outlines measures for weed control.
Performance Requirement: To ensure that best practice is used in the disposal of all cleared
vegetation from the development. All vegetative waste appropriately disposed of as described above.
Monitoring: Site inspections carried out during any clearing operations to ensure compliance with
management actions.
Reporting: Site Environmental Officer to include comments within monthly report provided to the
Superintendent.
Corrective Action: Inappropriate disposal of vegetation to be ceased immediately and management
practices detailed above to be implemented forthwith.
