Subject: Noosa Civic Development

To whom it may concern

Following an item on local Channel 7 news this evening (Friday) regarding comment on the Noosa Civic further development, I dropped in to http://yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au/your-say-noosa only to find nothing and asking me to “register”.

“Register” – Oh Dear! I am a rate payer, that is all you should be asking, and in that context perhaps the receipt no. for the last Rates Payment to keep the hangers on out.

Anyway; to Noosa Civic further development. My word, YES, and the more the better!

Sadly local government (opinion) as described in the local news papers seems to think that protecting existing business is the way of the future, when in fact all it does is drive up prices, and caters to ripping off tourists, and the locals who have to pay tourist prices!

While tourists are good, catering to the Junction/Hastings street landlord crowd is not. If the business were good or the rents were appropriate then they could stand on their own two feet without needing the coddling of more regulation, or the prevention of “competition”; a la the Noosaville Venture Drive barber/small business debacle.

How is it that a great place like Noosa and surrounds is denied big department stores like Myers or DJs? Why should we have to travel to Maroochydore............and of course we now no longer have a Council that needs to protect “the Plaza”. It is not a Council’s business to stop complying “reasonable” commercial development in those precincts set aside. If someone wants to throw a few million away, well that is their “business”. They sink or swim on their own merits, as do all the others.

The expansion of Noosa Civic is a commercial venture and a commercial risk; if someone wants to spend a great amount of money, and will (must) comply with the local environmental, and building rules, don’t stop them!

I moved to Noosa a couple of years ago, because of what it is, but at the time didn’t quite realise what it isn’t. I now know what it isn’t, and the what it isn’t, while not a game breaker is quite inconvenient at times for no particular benefit, and why: NIMBYs!

While I’m throwing in two bobs worth:

Locally - The speed limit past Noosa “Parklands” needs to have the 60kph extended out past Giddier Dr. The entry to and from Noosa Cooroy Rd from/to Griffith Ave, apart from the normal risks entering a 80KPh carriageway, also seems to generate a lot of “road rage” .

For the Region – Airport extensions must go ahead and Noosa Shire must support the Sunny Coast council in that endeavour.
