To All Sunshine Coast Regional Councillors
Attached to the e-mail Lobbying Councillor in support Kelly MCU12/0184.
To All Sunshine Coast Regional Councillors. My Name is Ray Kelly and I am writing in reference to the chicken farm at Top Forestry Road Cooroy. I am in support of this applicant as I believe we have reached the time into protecting our food Bio security within Australia. Most forward thinking international countries have already moved to secure their food sources. I have discovered this in my travels overseas over the last few years. I was a councillor for the Noosa Shire for 23 years and was appointed to the Rural Futures group representing South East Queensland Councils. The group back in the late nineties forecasted that if the world keep the growth rate of population we will not able to produce enough food for the world by 2052. We also run forecasts as to what was the way forward. The main factors were to be stainable, diversify our Agricultural operations and cut back on chemical fertilizer and sprays. I believe the chicken farm at Cooroy fits this critea. The main concern that I have with this decision you have make is the predicted clash between Hobby / Lifestyle Farms and the Agriculture production farms, is this conflict that is happening in this application. It must be made clear that persons buying in near productive agriculture land must be aware of these activities and the changing nature of these activities in the future. I believe there is concern out in the neighbourhood area about the miss- information that is going around about the farming operations that have been quoted in other areas. These farms are ten plus a years old, Technology has change so has the practice in to keeping chickens in a stainable way. The dust and odour concerns are well document in the modern practice policies of chicken farming. The road concerns are very misleading about the type of vehicles that will be used. A B Double can leave it trailer unit in Cooroy under the Highway which is happening now with other transports and make two trips, this could be a condition of approval. I spent some ½ Million dollars on Top Forestry road late Nineties early year 2000 , widening for the school bus route approval and up to 2007 spent some $50000.00 a year on gravel re sheeting for future sealing. There was one cnr that was not widen outside Mr Tells property, we left that so Mr Tell could re plant trees because his house was too close to the road, I hope that has been done . The waste is ideal example of organic fertiliser, being used on the farm with conjunction of Avocado production, I have experience chicken Manure as fertiliser on my Passion fruit farm back in the early eighties, and it works bigger better fruit and less chemicals and more money in pocket, I used some ten truck loads on 16 acres. The water run off issue is well address in the application, with the reuse onto the fruit trees and gardens and protection dams to catch excessive runoffs in high rain fall times. Yours Sincerely. Ray Kelly
