GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 13 SEPTEMBER 2021
Being a member of a Regional Organisation of Council may also provide our Council with another
avenue to lobby other levels of government. We will have the opportunity to raise issues with the
Council of Mayors (SEQ) who can advocate on our behalf, thus amplifying our lobbying voice.
A potential risk of joining the Council of Mayors (SEQ) is that many of the issues being addressed
by this organisation are “city centric” and based on rapid population growth being experienced in
some of the larger local governments. Many of the issues that our Council faces are not related to
that particular challenge but we do have more in common with other smaller councils who are also
members (e.g. Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Scenic Rim).
