3.1 Disposal of Refuse
Centre Management, on behalf of the body corporate will be responsible for collection and disposal
of the public space refuse to the designated bins and recycling areas located within the waste
loading dock area.
The individual tenants are responsible for their own waste and refuse from their own tenancies. All
general waste, paper, cardboard, glass and the like will be disposed using the nominated bins in the
waste loading dock area.
Specialised waste such as medical waste is the responsibility of the tenant producing that waste.
Existing State and Federal legislation governs the disposal of medical waste and each tenant will be
required to comply with the regulations and guidelines for handling of such waste. Currently,
Daniels Health, being a subsidiary of Cleanaway, services the Noosa area for anatomical, clinical,
cytotoxic, sharps and pharmaceutical waste.
A secure waste storage area has been provided if needed under the State regulations for medical
waste storage. Centre management on behalf of the body corporate will work with the individual
tenants to determine their medical waste storage and disposal and will incorporate these
requirements into the buildings waste management plan.
All bins are to be stored and located in the designated bin area. ‘Wheelie’ bins which contain
general waste and waste for recycling are located directly adjacent to or behind the designated
truck parking/loading areas.
Bins will be emptied on a regular basis so as not to allow overflow or storage of waste outside of the
provided bins. Emptying of the bins can be daily, every other day or weekly dependant on the
tenancy mix and waste generated. The generation and storage of waste will be monitored between
centre management and the Council waste contractor on a regular basis with the bin emptying
cycle times modified as required.
3.2 Waste Storage and Recycling Area
The waste storage and recycling areas are located within the building. The waste loading dock area
has been specifically designed so that all waste storage and the process of waste disposal by
Councils waste contractors and be easily and safely completed within the waste loading dock area
(refer to “Ground Floor Plan DA-21.20”). Ample allowance has been made for more room in the
waste loading dock area for expansion in the number of bins or type of bins if required. The bin area
will be constructed in accordance with Council policy.
The area has been designed to cater for;
a secure waste storage area for medical waste to cater for a minimum of 4 x 240 litre bins,
general waste and recycling bin area for a minimum of 12 x 360 litre bins,
general waste bin area for a minimum of 3 x 1100 litre bins, and
a bin wash area to drain to Council sewer.
