More particularly it would appear that there is an increasing divergence between the
performance of facilities in Peregian relative to the broader Sunshine Coast market. There are a
number of reasons that can explain this relative performance including:

 the age of some of the commercial stock within Peregian
 the competition between the commercial stock and considerable choice in the pool of
          holiday homes/apartments
 the target markets that are visiting Peregian compared with those in other areas of the
          Sunshine Coast
 the development of other stock in other areas of the Sunshine Coast
 the distance of the commercial stock in Peregian from the “core” Peregian Village precinct

4.2 VISITOR MARKETS

The Sunshine Coast including Peregian Beach, is an attractive destination for numerous key
visitor markets. Whilst the Region is known as a popular family holiday market, which is well
serviced by existing accommodation establishments; other visitor markets such as the short-
break, international and smaller travel parties (singles/couples) are less well accommodated
across the Sunshine Coast.

TABLE 4.2 breaks down the latest (2012) results of the National Visitor Survey (NVS) which define
visitation by travel party type to the Sunshine Coast compared to Queensland. Most notably, at
the time of the Survey, smaller travel parties including adult couples, those travelling alone and
business travellers comprised 50% of all domestic overnight visitors to the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast is gifted with a host of natural attractions and experiences. These features
are a key driver of visitation by ‘experiential’ visitors seeking to enjoy these natural attractions
in combination with experiences such as with food and wine, cultural activities, heritage, natural
and ‘ecotourism’.
