The protection of the trees should be undertaken during all stages of the project from the tree
clearing and site establishment, throughout the main construction until completion.

Tree Protection Zone fencing is to be erected prior to any works starting on site. This fence is
to be star pickets and orange plastic mesh is to be erected along the southern boundary of
the covenant area in accordance with Council approval conditions.

The fencing is to be certified by the Project Arborist before works commence with a prestart
held with the contractor.

6.1 SWALE
With the requirement for the clearing of the trees within the swale area, all care is to be taken
not to damage the protected trees. All tree removal is to be undertaken by hand with the use
of chainsaws. Tree stumps are to be ground and not ripped out of the ground, so as not to
disturb the ground in which the protected trees would have root systems growing.

The swale area is then to be covered with thick Geofab 8-10mm and then a ground protection
material such as either 200-300mm of forest mulch or some kind of rubber/plastic matting.
The aim of this ground protection is to allow access to the area whilst protecting the roots in
the ground. On completion of the main building construction works where access in this area
is needed the ground protection measures can be carefully removed.

It is acknowledged that a functional swale drain is required to be constructed which will require
the creation of battered sides. The greater the earthworks that occur closer to the protected
trees the greater the risk of damaging the trees and the forfeit of the monetary bond.

The details of the creation of the swale should be worked out on site with the team and the
Project Arborist to determine how this is created and what exactly the final design would look
like. Due to the limited access available for machinery, and only with the use of temporary
ground protection, a combination of a mini-digger and a Hydro-vac excavator is suggested as
a method to undertake any excavation to create the swale, with the Project Arborist overseeing
the works.

On completion of the build, the TPZ area is to be included in the soft landscaping plan. No
structure or services are to be installed within the area. Tree protection measures are to be
carefully removed under the guidance of the Project Arborist and the area is handed over to
the landscaper to complete any rectification works to the swale as per the approved landscape
plan.
