MCU12/0184 Objection - Esther Attewell
Subject: MCU 12/0104 Objection to Cooroy Broiler Farm From: Esther Attewell Date: 2014-08-27T00:28:53+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail I am horrified that a broiler farm is still being considered in Cooroy. I live at 490 Cooroy Belli Creek Road, about 2km away form the proposed site. My driveway and house are directly opposite the turn off to Old Ceylon Road that leads to Top Forestry Road and the health of my family and animals will be affected by the constant and all hours large truck traffic that will be involved in this operation. I find it unbelievable that these roads could be considered appropriate for this kind of operation. 1. Top Forestry Rd and Old Ceylon road are already dangerous, with lots of local traffic using the unsealed road, that is narrow, contains blind corners and steep hills. The School bus, waste collection, and postal routes on these roads add to the potential for accidents, adding to this the speed limit which is currently 80kms per hour on Cooroy Belli Creek road, leave little or no maneuvering ability for hazards such a loose animals (for which we see cows, wallabies and dogs regularly) plus fallen branches and trees after high wind, plus a large volume of cyclists. I have often had to slow or swerve to avoid cars coming on my side of the road avoiding a hazard or just driving to fast, if it's a large truck is coming my way (and either of us is avoiding a hazard) my family or me are dead meat !! 2. Large volumes of dust will be created from heavy traffic on the unsealed road impacting all the local houses plus the degradation of the junction leading from 'Cooroy belli Creek Road' onto 'Old Ceylon Road' which means when it rains polluted run of will make it's way across the road onto my property and into my dam and rainforest gully system (which is currently clean and healthy) 3. The proposed route goes directly thru one of the main areas of Cooroy's residential streets, with inappropriate roundabouts and blind road bends. 4. A major concern for me is that I will be subject to horrendous noise day and night from compression braking coming down the hill opposite my house and the horrendous noise of large vehicles trying to get up the steep hill opposite my house. Not just the death trucks but all of the feed deliveries, infrastructure etc etc etc etc etc I find it unbelievable that such an environmental polluting operation is being considered on top of a steep hill !! Seriously !! maybe the wastes and shit and pollutants can be contained in a flat area (where most chicken farms are located) but the polluted run off on this site would be slow, insidious and irreversible. 1. Huge extractor fans discharge dust carrying particles of organic and inorganic matter, dried faecal matter, feathers, plant matter, bacteria, endotoxins, fungi, growth hormones, worming products, vermin control, chemicals spray. Coating everything with in a radius and potentially spreading disease to all the local back yard layers and large volume and variety of wild birds in the area. Eventually settling on the ground and being washed down stream (because when your on top of something the only way to move is down, it's called gravity) 2. The dust may contaminate drinking water, streams and dam catchment areas that feed farm stock 3. Inhalation of fine inorganic dust from poultry operations has the potential to exacerbate asthmatic conditions and cause lung inflammation, I already have an asthmatic condition. I find it unbelievable that the residents around this farm will not be protected from the odour from the day to day stink extracted by huge fans the cleaning out shed litter between growing cycles creates a massive amount of odour that flows with the wind for Kms. Plus the transportation of untreated shed wastes off site creates odour along all the local roads. In conclusion I am 100% against this site being considered for this operation I think the owner of the land and whichever the multi million dollar company have a stake in it, should seriously consider another site that is flat, away from environmentally sensitive areas and does not run though a heavily residential area. On top of a hill with all the noise and environmental pollution it will create, SERIOUSLY !!!! Please feel free to contact me further. Esther Attewell M: 0419 212 950 Empower . Create . Inspire .
