PETITION - No Car Parking / Protect Greenspace at Noosa Heads Lions Park
Please sign this petition to lobby the Noosa Shire Council NOT to reverse their decision to end all
parking at Lions Park.
Lions Club Tewantin Noosa has been operating a car public park over most of the usable level
grassed area during school holidays contrary to:
• Department of Resources Park Designation,
• Noosa Planning Scheme,
• Noosa Transport Strategy, and
• Noosa Council Design Principals.
The Noosa Council Design Principals clearly prohibits the conversion of greenspace into car
parking. Page 15, “Open space will remain a priority even though the demand for car parking
seems limitless”.
Council should be commended for protecting this important amenity for local residents (both
permanent and visiting).
Creating additional car parking in the local area is inappropriate (irrespective of illegal taking of
greenspace) as it puts more pressure on local amenities such as main beach, surf breaks and the
national park that are already over loved. This is not good for the environment or local residents.
There will always be trade, job and congestions issues and this will increase as population
increases. This is not an acceptable excuse and there is no evidence to suggest that there would be
any impact in this regard associated with ceasing car parking in Lions Park.
Charitable revenue also is not a satisfactory reason to convert greenspace into car parking.
Council imposes a Hastings Street and Main Beach Levy on local residential property owners.
• What costs are covered by these levies?
• What are the benefits derived by the local residents and property owners?
Possibly a small portion of the levy revenue could cover the contributions that were being made
by the Lions Association on local projects from car park revenue.
It is imperative that state and local government protect amenity available to local residents and
the population impact on the natural environment.
Is anyone looking after the interests of Noosa Main Beach local residents?

We pay high rates and cannot go down to hasting street due to lz parking taken up by tourists. This should not be rectified by allowing parking in normal recreational areas . Parking should be outside this area and buses used for transport, Also Residents should be allowed a resident sticker to ailow for local usage by local people who pay rates and community infrastructure. | know tourists are important but we do not need all our green areas taken up with parked cars. s 7 https://mail.google.com/mail/u/2/popout?ver=1 23 ytthb2 91 wb&emsg==%23msg-a%3 Ar-7424 | 8524404783068 Kattid=0.29 Wl :
