Integrated catchment management practices have improved our waterways and wetlands.
Environment Strategy 2019 Goals:
By 2030, our waterways, wetlands and coasts are healthy, resilient to change and valued by
the community.
Environment Strategy 2019 Strategies:
maintain & improve the health of waterways, wetlands & catchments
manage waterways and coasts to protect environmental values while enabling sustainable
public access, recreation and commercial use.
Risks & Opportunities
The maintenance of high standards for water quality is consistent with Council’s Environment
Strategy and underpins the Noosa River ecology and economy. There is a risk that declining water
quality may impact the Noosa ecology and economy.
There is a risk that acceptance of lower WQOs may lead to the community perception that Noosa
Council is agreeing to lower standards for its river.
There is an opportunity to seek more stringent WQOs for Burgess Creek, which are consistent with
community expectations.
