Plate 6 - Characteristic vegetation within VHC 40.4
2.4 Vegetation external of the 150m assessment buffer
The distribution and composition of hazardous vegetation (vegetation assigned a fuel load of >8t/ha)
situated external of the 150m assessment area has not been ground truthed however can be
assessed at a high level via desktop assessment. QLD DNRME’s Vegetation Management Support
Map identifies the composition and distribution of remnant regional ecosystems at a 1:25,000 scale
in south east Queensland. Superimposing this layer over satellite imagery highlights the composition
and extent of presumedly intact native bushland in comparison to cleared and semi-cleared areas in
the locality (refer to Plate 7). The regional ecosystems identified in Plate 7 are defined below along
with their associated VHC’s.
2.4.1 North
The landscape to the north is dominated by existing remnant vegetation areas surrounding Mount
Tinbeerwah. Remnant vegetation is mapped as containing a RE 12.9-10.14, RE12.9-10.1 and RE
12.9-10.17 on the lower slopes and RE 12.8.19 and RE 12.8.20 on Mt Tinbeerwah.
The lower slope RE’s are attributed a potential fuel load of 35t/ha (Leonard et al., 2017) and are
assigned a High Potential Bushfire Intensity class (QFES 2019).
RE 12.8.19 and RE 12.8.20 present on Mt Tinbeerwah are attributed a potential fuel load of 17.2
t/ha (Leonard et al., 2017) and are assigned a Medium Potential Bushfire Intensity class (QFES
2019).
2.4.2 East
The vegetation located to the east of the site is dominated by a mosaic of remnant vegetation areas
including RE 12.9-10.14 (Eucalyptus pilularis tall open forest). RE 12.9-10.14 is attributed a potential
fuel load of 35t/ha (Leonard et al., 2017) and is assigned a High Potential Bushfire Intensity class
(QFES 2019).
2.4.3 South
The vegetation located to the south of the site is dominated by a mosaic of remnant and non-remnant
areas within rural allotments, typically associated with waterways. The dominant RE closest to the
site is described as RE 12.3.11 (Eucalyptus tereticornis and Corymbia intermedia open forest on
alluvial plains) (VHC 16.1) with a moderate sized unit located to the south of Coveys Rd. RE 12.3.11
is attributed a potential fuel load of 16t/ha (Leonard et al., 2017) and is assigned a High Potential
Bushfire Intensity class (QFES 2019).
2.4.4 West
The landscape located to the west/north-west of the site is mapped as containing a large unit of RE
12.9-10.1 and 12.9-10.17 Tall open Eucalypt forest. Both vegetation types are expected to contain
VHC 8.1 which is attributed a potential fuel load of 35t/ha (Leonard et al., 2017) and are assigned a
High Potential Bushfire Intensity class (QFES 2019).
