5. Information requested
In assessing your application for an environmentally relevant activity, the Department of
Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP)is required to comply with the regulatory requirements in
Part 2 of the Environmental Protection Regulation 2008. In doing so, EHP must carry out an
environmental objective assessment against the environmental objective and performance outcomes
in Schedule 5, part 3, tables 1 and 2. EHP has reviewed the information submitted with the
application and is unable to complete this assessment based upon the information provided.
As a minimum, the following must be addressed or the application may be refused:
. Environmental values associated with the site and adjacent lands have not been fully
identified. All environmental values on and adjacent to the area of the site proposed to be
used for aquaculture must be described. For this particular activity, surface water and
groundwater values are essential.
. It is not clear how the activity will be managed to ensure environmental values of surface
waters and groundwater will be protected. This is particularly important in relation to pond
construction and management.
. There is no information on how the activity will be managed to protect the environmental
values of air or the acoustic environment. Any potential impacts on air or the acoustic
environment must be identified and information on how these impacts will be minimised
and/or managed must also be provided.
. There is no information in relation to any waste generated by the proposed activity and how
this waste will be minimised and managed. This must be provided.
. There is no information in relation to any chemicals associated with the proposed
of
aquaculture activity. If chemicals will be handled or stored on site, please provide details
how they will be managed to minimise impacts on environmental values.
To assist you in providing the required information, please refer to Part 2 and Schedule 5 of the
Environmental Protection Regulation 2008 and the Queensland Government’s Business and
Industry Portal at http://www.business.gld.gov.au/business/running/environment/licences-permits
which provides technical information requirements for an application.
