Dear Greg,

As the Industry Liaison Officer for Noosa District State High School, I am writing a letter of
support for Eco Cottages Pty Ltd — Proposed Social Housing Project at 55 Carpenters Road,
Cooroy. In my role, I support students on a vocational pathway which includes sourcing school-
based traineeships/apprenticeships and work experience.

As education changes and the push for trade increases, we are finding more and more students
hoping to kick-start their careers whilst still having the option to complete Year 12. The main
barriers students face (if they do not have a relative/friend in the desired trade) is trying to find
an employer. I believe the Proposed Housing Project will provide several local school-based
apprenticeships in trades that are in demand and an opportunity for students to undergo an
extensive work experience program.

I have called upon Eco Cottages a number of times and to our delight, they have been
marvellous with accommodating many of our current and past students. I had the pleasure of
a tour and was so impressed and could see such potential on offer to our students by the
purpose-built factory with Zero Net Energy (ZNE), manufacturing an incredible ZNE energy
modular homes and products made from cypress pine (a natural sustainable non-toxic
renewable resource). The ability to gain new and innovative skills and develop the young
person in an emerging industry without the need to travel to work sites all over the coast, which
would be very difficult, considering the age of the students.

As a school, NDSHS values the relationship we have with Eco Cottages and we hope to really
strengthen our partnership with helping young people on their pathway. Having this state-of-
the-art facility at our doorstep, we could easily place 10 school-based apprentices in carpentry,
cabinet-making and joinery and/or have a number of students engaged in work experience or
training which will retain our students to complete Year 12 by offering a more hands on option.

Noosa District State High School would be in full support of any project Eco Cottages deem
