CCIQ Noosa #3 Noosa Convention & Cultural Centre Initiative
Pre-feasibility Study April 2016
This document is intended to promote the commissioning and completion of a
Executive professionally executed feasibility study into the location, construction and operation
Summary of a dedicated 300 to 650-delegate convention centre with a 1,000 theatre style
seating capacity and a >700 seat dedicated performance centre on the same site to
maximise synergies between the two towards economic benefit across Noosa and
respond to the need expressed in the Sunshine Coast Strategic Destination Tourism
Plan.
The document does not recommend one facility with dual purposing but two distinct
and complimentary centres operating independently but cooperatively.
This study identifies niche high-yield segmentation in the meetings, incentive,
convention and exhibition sector – MICE as productive commerce driver beside
current events, tourism and environment. The paper introduces a new partner to
this powerful mix delivered through a serious upgrade to a new cultural facility.
This paper suggests that a portion of general tourism and a limited spare capacity off-
peak and mid-week can be replaced with a more profitable convention and delegate
partner business in the 300+ to 650 delegate event segment, creating jobs, new
businesses and economic opportunities.
This paper also suggests that now is the time for a significant boost to culture in
Noosa to create a business and culture model similar to the leadership centres in
Banff, Canada, Carmel and Aspen USA. In effect, over the next decade, we ‘own’ and
make business events and arts – a Noosa Industry. To do this we need unique, world-
class facilities as described in this paper.
