Key to the implementation of the Pest Management Plan is the development of a
Communication and Education Plan. This plan will identify pest management stakeholders
and the process of communication with all people concerned. The Communication and
Education Plan will include the following:
Stakeholder list
Education and awareness programs
Priority pest species for control
Communication media: Webpage, Email Newsletters, attendance at events and
forums
Access to pest management resource publications
The purpose of the Communication and Education Plan is to provide clear and consistent
messaging on pest management to all stakeholders concerned. Increasing awareness
improves community capacity to control pests and also avoid potential new incursions. The
Communication and Education Plan can be jointly managed with other programs such as
Land for Wildlife, LandCare, Bushland Care and Government initiatives.
12. Objectives
Seven overarching objectives have been identified for Noosa pest management. These are:
1. Pest management is planned, coordinated, managed and implemented
2. Strengthen pest management education and communication programs with stakeholders
and the community
3. Improve stakeholder and community capacity to manage pests
4. Develop and implement compliance procedures and programs
5. Conduct research to improve our understanding and knowledge of pests and their
control
6. Develop a priority listing of pest species for targeted management
7. Develop information systems to record data, information and maps on pest species
The Strategic Action Plan in Section 13 provides the measures to achieve these objectives.
13. Strategic Action Plan
The Strategic Action Plan reflects the cooperative management of weeds and pest animals
and includes actions to be undertaken by all stakeholders. The desired outcomes of the
Queensland Weeds Strategy 2002-2006 and the Queensland Pest Animal Strategy 2002-
2006 provide the overall direction for the development of Actions in the Plan. The
Implementation Plan highlights actions within a four year implementation timeframe. Each
action identifies stakeholders responsible for delivering actions, set timeframes and
indicators of success against which the Plan will be evaluated.
