burn soon after a high intensity wildfire can be
considered to reduce germinating mesic species. This
'endangered' RE may contain a high number of rare and
threatened plant species which require appropriate fire
management.
Table 3. Regional Ecosystems Descriptions and Fire Guidelines
This assessment is not based on any assumptions regarding prescribed burning with temporary hazard
reduction benefits; and has to be based on fuel levels reaching a long term maximum stable state, coinciding
with ignition under worst case foreseeable fire weather conditions.
4.1 Fire History and Frequency
This study found old evidence of fire in the area, more than 20 years prior. Recurrence of fire is anticipated,
potentially coinciding with full potential fuel accumulation and worst case fire weather conditions.
4.2 Koala Habitat
The site in question is mapped by State Government as Core Koala Habitat Area, placing limitations on the
amount of permissible clearing. Advice should be sought from a suitably qualified ecological consultant to
inform the client on the options available.
