In respect to flame and smoke impact, recommendation 17 of the submitted bushfire report
requires the preparation of an evacuation plan that would result in the removal of staff and
residents from anxiety causing flame and smoke accompanying a bushfire.

In the event that staff and residents were impacted by smoke there are a range of mitigation
measures that can be taken including sheltering inside, closing all windows and doors and
fitting air-conditioners with appropriate smoke/air filters (high efficiency particle air filters).
Residents would be attended by Registered Nurses working at the facility who could assist
particularly vulnerable residents with appropriate medical care including oxygen supply,
asthma medications and air masks.

It should be noted that in the event of a large bushfire that much of the local area would be
impacted by smoke and this would not be limited to the subject site. Please find attached
additional information (Fire Note 21) on smoke hazards of bushfire and ways to combat
smoke hazards prepared by the Bushfire CRC.

as Open Space areas are to be treated to minimise the BAL affects.

Information Required
11 Provide additional information and support with plans, drawings or
photographs with respect to how the Open Space areas (OS1 & OS3) are to be

        and its height and flammability.
Covey Associates have worked in conjunction with Anembo Landscape Architects to prepare
drawings that depict how the various Open Space areas will be treated to minimise BAL
affects. Please find attached a copy of the plans prepared by Anembo that incorporate
detailed bushfire mitigation measures that will be adopted at OPW design.
Principles for landscape design were also included in the submitted bushfire assessment
report, refer recommendation 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and Appendix F.
We hope this assists with the assessment of the application in respect to bushfire issues.
Trusting the above is to your satisfaction, and should further information be required please
contact this office.

Yours faithfully
