6.3          Vegetation Communities
Vegetation classification is important for a number of reasons, namely it indicates the level of fire
intensity and fire behaviour associated with specific stands of vegetation and it also indicates the
fuel loads which may exist in certain locations.

The vegetation comprises a mix of four distinct coastal Regional Ecosystems, outlined at the table
below. There is a considerable difference between the heath and woodlands to the north and
south of the site, and the wetland area to the immediate west which forms part of Noosa National
Park.

To the immediate north of Lot 6, vegetation within proximity of the creek/tributary (between Lot 6
and the high school to the north) has been historically managed and is now not reflected within
either the Regional Ecosystem (biodiversity status) mapping or the Statewide Bushfire Prone Area
(refer to Figure 7 above).

Within 100m of the site and in accordance with Table 2.3 of AS3959-2009, the vegetation
communities within 100m of the site are classified as Shrublands and Scrub. It is further noted that
most vegetation internal to the site will be removed with the exception of a number of isolated
specimens which are feeding trees for the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo, habitat trees for
koala or selected grass trees.
