(Sunshine Coast Daily, 2008). Whilst it cannot be confirmed, the nature of multiple ignitions within a
short period is generally an indicator of deliberate or malicious ignition.

Another ignition occurred on 20 September 2018, again at Grasstree Court. From what is understood
of this event, a malicious ignition started on Lot 9 and burnt out an area of several hundred square
metres but did not pose any threat to nearby properties. The size of burn patch indicates efficient
suppression, with full mop up noting bushfire field work was conducted on 26 September, six days
after the ignition.

More broadly, bushfire remains a constant threat to urban residential areas across the Sunshine
Coast, with several key fires occurring in recent times including those at Peregian Beach as well as
Caloundra. Thus the threat of bushfire cannot be discounted.

Notwithstanding this, the approved development may in fact alleviate existing malicious acts of
ignition as persons will no longer be able to conduct nuisance behaviour in this location, at least
without the threat of identification. The approved development offers a level of casual surveillance
of the area which may in fact work to reduce potential acts of arson in the immediate area.
