                                                                       Bushfire Emergency Provisions
                                   Residential Aged Care Facility – 6 Grasstree Court, Sunrise Beach



Introduction
These Bushfire Emergency Provisions are prepared for the residential aged care (RAC) facility
located at 6 Grasstree Court, Sunrise Beach.

These provisions are to be integrated into or attached to the overall emergency management plan
for the facility, proving bushfire-specific measures to be considered in the event of a bushfire
emergency within Noosa National Park.

Part A of these provisions address the specific preparatory measures required in advance of an
emergency, ensuring the facility, its operators and staff, and its occupants, are prepared ahead of
a bushfire emergency, in conjunction with advice/instruction from:

     •    Queensland Police Service;

     •    Queensland Fire and Emergency Services; and/or

     •    Noosa Shire Council (Local Disaster Management Group).

Part B of these provisions provide specific fire emergency details which should be completed and
incorporated into the overall emergency plan for the facility.

Why develop these provisions?
The RAC facility located at 6 Grasstree Court, Sunrise Beach adjoins the Noosa National Park. Whilst
this provides a level of lifestyle amenity, occasionally the threat of a bushfire emergency may
eventuate. These provisions seek to help prepare for an emergency ahead of each annual fire
season, by making sure the owners, operators and staff take appropriate action to prepare the
facility and its occupants for a bushfire emergency.

Owners, operators and staff must be familiar with the responsibilities and actions set out in these
provisions, in advance of any emergency situation.

The overall emergency plan for the facility will include evacuation procedures which are developed
by a qualified professional. These provisions do not override that Plan, but rather provide bushfire-
specific triggers for action and evacuation procedures which must be considered and integrated
as part of the preparation of an overall emergency management plan for the facility.

These provisions are based upon Fire Danger Rating communications provided by the Queensland
Fire and Emergency Services, the bushfire-specific evacuation planning template prepared by New
South Wales Rural Fire Service and the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience Handbook 4:
Evacuation Planning.

Pursuant to the above, the references to off-site evacuation within these provisions include total,
partial and phased evacuation processes which may depend upon the nature of the situation,
number of staff or emergency services available to assist, the status of particular occupants or
available transport.
