International Coastal Management – Acid Sulfate Soil Investigation - Noosa River Dredging Program, Noosa River, Noosa

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This report contains the results of the acid sulfate soil investigation by Pacific Geotech.
The work has been undertaken to further assess a potential acid sulfate hot spot
encountered during the original investigation for the current dredging work.

2.0 METHODOLOGY

The investigation comprised the sampling of 6 boreholes using Piston Sampling
techniques from a custom spud legged work boat and 2 boreholes to depths of 6m
advanced from the work boat using driven split tube sampling equipment.

An additional borehole was drilled from the beach to a depth of 6.0m, adjacent the
BH01 to confirm the soil profile at depth.

The boreholes were located by an experienced geotechnical engineer and locations
were recorded using a hand held GPS.

The soil classification descriptions and field tests were carried out in general
accordance with Australian Standards.

Borehole records and a site plan showing the test locations are appended to the
report.

The boreholes were sampled for acid sulfate purposes, in addition to geotechnical
sampling. Sampling of the surficial sediments were recovered from a series of the
boreholes, to allow analytical testing of the samples to determine the potential acid
sulfate content.

3.0 SITE DESCRIPTION

The site of the investigation is located within the Noosa River, Noosa.

The area under consideration is immediately adjacent a public boat ramp and is
