Subject: nzw BCS 1192 MCU 12/0208 Notice of Submission Adrienne Prentice

Dear Sir,

I object in the strongest terms to the abovementioned MCU on the basis of my experience, having lived with broiler farms for several years in the Paterson Valley, NSW. The following are my experiences:

· Stench – imagine a combination of vomit and rotting animal matter – from the sheds, and during spreading of foul manure (the stench was revolting and could be smelt over 5 km away).

· Noise – of machinery – automatic watering and feeding machines, exhaust fans,

of trucks – delivering feed and chicks and collection of matured birds BETWEEN 1.00AM and 3.00 IN THE MORNING!!!!!!!!! The noise was unbearable and it occurred regularly every six to eight weeks!!!!!

· Dust contamination – of the surrounding area resulting in poor air quality and pollution of drinking water from tanks owing to the laying down of dust on roof catchments

· Pollution of the water-ways owing to run-off from sheds and during the spreading of manure

· Stock piling of manure - some farmers had too much manure to spread on their property, so left it in stock-piles resulting in run-off to adjacent waterways during rain periods.

· Problems with dead carcasses remaining buried. Some carcasses were not buried deep enough to prevent them from rising to the surface. Sheds were not effectively policed by authorities thus leaving it to neighbours to complain. Effective action was slow.

· Little economic benefit (except to the farmer) and negligible employment opportunities – only two to three jobs for large factories, as farmers worked and managed their own sheds

All this from sheds that were much smaller than the ones proposed in this application.

I urge the Council to defer a decision on this matter for the new Noosa Council, and failing a deferral, to reject this MCU proposal.

Yours faithfully,

Adrienne Prentice
