Log in to see the plans as drawnLike other coastal Queensland communities, the Noosa community is aging. Children aged 0 – 14 years made up 16% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 24% of the population. 6.2 Community capacity 6.2.1 Administrative centres The major business centre in the Shire is Noosa Civic in Noosaville, with smaller centres at Noosa Junction and Tewantin. These centres accommodate key education, business, service and retail uses. In the hinterland the railway towns of Cooran, Pomona and Cooroy provide services to their local communities, as do the smaller villages of Boreen Point, Federal and Kin Kin. The Noosa Council offices are located in Tewantin at 9 Pelican Street. 6.2.2 Community organisations There are around 300 community, sporting, cultural and service groups operating across the Noosa Shire. 6.2.3 Healthcare The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service extends from Tin Can Bay and Glenwood (34km from Gympie) in the north, to Beerburrum in the south. The Health Service operates five public hospitals at Kawana, Nambour, Caloundra, Maleny and Gympie. In addition to the public hospitals the Noosa Hospital is one of five private hospitals operating in the region. The others are Caloundra Private, Nambour Private, Sunshine Coast Private and the Sunshine Coast University Private. Medical clinics serviced by GPs, registered nursing and specialist staff are located in the larger towns within the Shire. There are community pharmacies in most towns and shopping centres. The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services provides disability services, support and facilities to people with a disability and their carers living in Noosa. In July 2012 a Health Sub-Committee was formed as part of the District Group. The Sub- Committee identified the need to establish a Health Sub-Plan to provide clearly defined points of contact and outline strategic management for all aspects of relevant health care that may impact on communities in the event of a disaster. The sub-plan is currently under review. 6.2.4 Aged care There are four aged care facilities in the Shire: • Carramar – 186 Cooroy Noosa Road, Tewantin • Kabara – 120 Topaz Street, Cooroy • Ozcare – 80 Cooyar Street, Noosa Heads • Noosa Nursing Centre – 119 Moorindil Street, Tewantin In addition, there are five retirement and mature age living villages: • Palm Lake Resort - 19 Trading Post Road, Cooroy • Domain – 35 Walter Hay Drive, Noosaville Noosa Local Disaster Management Plan 2018 Page 29
