9.9.3 Local community disaster plans
In recognition of the size and diversity of the Shire, and in order to mitigate the risk from flooding
and bushfire in particular, the Local Group intends to work with community organisations, local
business groups and others to prepare disaster / emergency and business continuity plans and
strategies for particular high-risk localities and demographic groups with the Noosa Shire.
The Local Group’s initial focus will be to work with:
• Local communities such as Kin Kin, Cooran and Pomona that may become isolated during
flood or fire events
• Organisations that care for vulnerable sectors of the community through the Community
Welfare sub-committee
• Tourism organisations and businesses to ensure that visitors to the region are well
informed in the event of a disaster.
