REVISED POLICY GUIDELINES- PRIVATE LAND CONSERVATION PARTNERSHIPS · Policy Guideline - Private Land Conservation Partnerships Final with attachments
10.2 Working Toward Registration
• Must have a minimum of 1 hectare of Habitat Under Restoration &/or Retained Habitat
(City of Gold Coast, Fraser Coast Regional Council, Gympie Regional Council, Ipswich City
Council, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Noosa Council,
Redland City Council, Scenic Rim Regional Council, Somerset Regional Council and Sunshine
Coast Council).
• Must have a minimum property size of 1 hectare plus minimum of 0.5 hectares of Habitat
Under Restoration &/or Retained Habitat (Logan City Council).
• Must have a minimum of 0.5 hectares of Habitat Under Restoration &/or Retained Habitat
(Brisbane City Council).
• All properties assessed to be Working Towards Registration must have the capacity to
become Registered over time. It is the role of the council LfW Officer to advise the
landholder on manageable, practical steps (a ‘roadmap’) that they can take to improve the
ecological conditions of the property over time to warrant the status of Registered.
• Examples of properties that meet the minimum size requirements but would not be eligible
for Working Towards Registration include:
- A rural property or former grazing paddock with scattered paddock trees whereby the
landholder is committed to a regular mowing regime preventing native understorey
recruitment.
- A property with extensive ornamental plants around the house, which are encroaching
into bushland areas, and the landholder is unwilling to control these garden plants.
Examples of Working Towards Registration properties include:
- A former grazing property with degraded paddocks and/or neglected pasture whereby
the landholder has demonstrated a change of land use from grazing to conservation,
and the land is undergoing a transition to native vegetation.
- A property with native vegetation but the ecosystem is not yet functional (lacks a native
understorey and/or key species representative of the original Regional Ecosystem), and
the landholder is committed to improving the ecological condition of this area.
- A property with a native tree plantation, which is not going to be harvested but lacks an
understorey and provision of diverse wildlife habitat, whereby the landholder intents to
restore the area back to the original Regional Ecosystem as much as possible.
- A newly purchased property where the owners are interested and keen in conservation,
and there is Retained Habitat that meets the minimum size requirements, but the
owners have not yet demonstrated a willingness to, or have not had time to
demonstrate, conservation land management.
