REPORT
1. PROPOSAL
The application seeks approval for a Material Change of Use for Animal Husbandry Type 2
for a maximum of 1,000 chickens to be farmed on the 60.7ha property, situated at 317
Lawnville Road, Black Mountain.
The applicant proposes that the chickens will be farmed for a mix of both egg and meat
production. Details of the proposal include:
Free range egg production, using point of lay chickens housed within a ‘chicken
caravan’. The applicant proposes up to 4 caravans on the site, with the largest caravan
housing up to 300 birds. The caravans are to be moved approximately 5m a day along
the ridgelines of the property, so as not to burn the pasture. A 50m perimeter electric
fence is proposed to surround the caravans. Eggs are collected daily from the chicken
caravans, using a rollaway laying box.
