RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Planning & Organisation
Committee dated 20 May 2014 and in accordance with Section 195 of the Local Government Act
2009, agree to appoint Martin Drydale, Director Planning & Infrastructure as the Acting Chief
Executive Officer during any periods of leave or absence by the Chief Executive Officer.



REPORT
The purpose of this report is to seek Council’s approval for the appointment of an Acting Chief
Executive Officer during any periods of leave or absence by the permanent Chief Executive
Officer.

Section 195 of the Queensland Local Government Act 2009 provides:

195 Appointing an acting chief executive officer
       A local government may appoint a qualified person to act as the chief executive officer
       during-
       (a) any vacancy, or all vacancies, in the position; or
       (b) any period, or all periods, when the chief executive officer is absent from duty or
             cannot, for another reason, perform the chief executive officer’s responsibilities.

Given that the Council has now permanently appointed its Executive Team, it is timely that this
matter be considered. It is recommended that Mr Martin Drydale, Council’s Director Planning &
Infrastructure be appointed to fulfil the position of Acting Chief Executive Officer. Mr Drydale has
suitable experience and qualifications to perform this role.
