Dear Sir/Madam
LETTER OF SUPPORT – THE CALILE NOOSA RESORT HOTEL DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL
As the Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO), Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC) is continually working
with industry and stakeholders to market the region to attract new visitors and support the
region’s economy. On behalf of VSC, I would like to share our perspective on the Calile Noosa
resort hotel development plan.
The project will help reassert Noosa’s position as a premium holiday destination and address
the significant shortage of new purpose-built hotel inventory in the Sunshine Coast.
There has not been a new 5-star resort hotel developed on the Sunshine Coast in over three
decades. The Sunshine Coast needs new, high-quality, full-service hotel products to attract
high-value travellers to the region in what is an increasingly competitive tourism landscape.
This is especially important as the Sunshine Coast looks to rebuild its international markets
that are so important to the region given they spend more when they are here. The new hotel
would provide a compelling reason to attract these international (and interstate) visitors once
again and be a boost for the local tourism industry. In addition, the Calile name is already well-
established in Brisbane, which is one of the most important source markets for visitors.
Without new hotels being developed across the Sunshine Coast, visitors are instead opting for
alternative accommodation, such as short-term transitory accommodation in units and houses.
The Calile Noosa would provide for a purpose-built tourism accommodation that is preferred
by visitors as it offers a premium experience that better meets their needs.
The Sunshine Coast has seen considerable infrastructure investment in recent years with the
opening of the new runway and upgrading of terminal facilities at Sunshine Coast Airport. The

Bruce Highway is being progressively enhanced, and proposals for an extension of the railway
line from Brisbane to Maroochydore is under serious discussion in the lead up to the Sunshine
Coast being a co-host of the 2032 Olympic Games.
These initiatives will provide outstanding opportunities for the region to continue growing the
region’s $5billion visitor economy (includes $1.6 billion for Noosa), which is the principal driver
of income and jobs for the local community. However, future growth in tourism – especially
high-yielding, longer-stay interstate and international growth – may be constrained without
adequate new tourism accommodation infrastructure.
Visit Sunshine Coast evaluates new accommodation proposals using the following
considerations to identify priority projects:
• Upscale – 5-star accommodation
• Large scale
• Strong branding
• Substantial conference and events facilities
• Prime location
• Established funding
• Environmentally and Community conscious
Our assessment is that the Calile Noosa hotel proposal fulfils these considerations and
represents a compelling high-quality tourism accommodation facility that will positively
contribute to the region’s tourism industry.
Recognising the positive economic impact the project would have on the region, Visit Sunshine
Coast would like to add its support for the Calile Noosa hotel project, if it fulfills the Noosa
Council development guidelines, and we would look forward to being involved in the project
from a tourism perspective.
We are available to discuss any of these matters further with Council representatives.
Sunny regards
Matt Stoeckel
