            3. EXISTING ACOUSTIC ENVIRONMENT

An on-site survey was conducted for a period of 7 days, between Saturday 10th December 2016 and Saturday
17th December 2016. The measurement location (ML1) was located adjacent to unit 4 of 255 Weyba Road as
shown in Figure 2.1. The measurement location (ML2) was located in the rear yard of 2/55 Blue Fin Court
            as shown in Figure 2.1.

The microphone was placed at a height of 1.5 m at both ML1 and ML2 (see Figure 2.3 and Figure 2.4). The
measured levels are considered free field. Measurement at these locations are considered indicative of the
noise environment adjacent to the measurement locations. The background noise was predominantly made up
of traffic noise along Mary Street and Weyba Road and from the operation of the existing service centre.

All instrumentation used in this assessment holds a current calibration certificate from a certified NATA
calibration laboratory. The following instruments were used to measure the ambient noise levels-
                 • Rion NL-21 type 2 environmental noise loggers
                 • Bruel & Kjaer calibrator

Ambient sound pressure levels were measured generally in accordance with Australian Standard
            AS1055.1:1997 - ‘Acoustics-Description and measurement of environmental noise - Part 1: General
procedures’. Ambient noise levels were recorded at continuous 15 minute intervals. (Figure 3.1 and
Figure 3.2). Although the EPP noise policy 2008 only requires average background noise levels, rating
background noise levels as described in the DEHP Guideline “Planning for Noise Control” using the tenth
percentile method have been used in this assessment as shown in below. Terms and definitions used in the
report are found in Appendix A.
